Lawrence chikwa
ZAMBIA
CHIKWA is an artist from Lusaka, his work involves collecting a lot of different kind of objects, man made and natural objects, to compose some art piece that borders between painting and sculpture, yet it is non of these. Chikwa has perfected his trend of pasting these objects or elements carefully on the canvas to transmit messages coded in African cultural costumes. Some objects were bought and others picked from the environment, together he brought to life an art form of its kind. He came much earlier than all participants to organize materials he deemed important for the type of his work. A wooden stretcher with sisal ropes running parallel clad with two round sacks and a painted African broom ( ichipyango, chipyngo ) exhibits good craftsmanship, he entitled his composition Unity.
