NORMAN O' FLYNN
SOUTH AFRICA
NORMAN comes from Cape Town, South Africa and his body print performance with roommate Lutanda was one of the most exciting products of Insakartists 2003. Thanks to photographers Leonard Musabula and Ann Marie Curran for they captured the scenes as they happened. "Krisnablue" - Body print session became a beacon of other performances to develop within the workshop. In his own words, "the workshop was amazing and brilliant, the amount of energy put into getting us together was phenomena. It's nice to see local artists have international flavour, adds a lot energy, new ideas and motivated with what was happening, I made friends, I am happy it was a very good workshop". Norman was also very prolific , he produced many art works expressed in different art forms, like "our impermanent nature " has a strong statement in it, after watching the Kariba Dam documentary, Norman's reaction to the massive dam construction , meant destruction on the other hand to the people, animals and nature of this land now submerged underwater. Legend has it that the villages and the forest still remain underwater and local visit their ancestors using metaphysical methods. Whatever the case those villagers have not been compensated and destruction continues on those families.
