- Born as Morris Njau in Nyathuna
village, Kiambu, Kenya
- Born circa 1947
- Lives and works at own studio at home.
- Went to school in 1956 and studied up to standard 7 due to lack
of school fees and problems associated with the independence struggle.
- Left home to live with the family of Foit, a Czechoslovakian fine
arts lecturer at the University of Nairobi. He taught him how to
carve and make sculptures during the four years that they worked
together.
- Joined the army in 1968 in order to contribute to his younger
siblings' school fees and stayed for the next 14 years.
- Obtained support and encouragement from a group of artists from
the nearby village of Ngecha in Limuru and through them found his
way into Gallery Watatu in 1990.
- As a mark of respect to the man who first inspired him, Morris
has since taken up the name of Foit as his artistic name.
Has conducted a three year apprentice sculpture programme at own
studio for rehabilitated street boys
