Affordable Art Show
Organise by 'ADITI' an organisation
of women from India in Dar es Salaam under the chairmanship of the
spouse of the High Commissioner of India in Dar es Salaam, Mrs.
Adity Chakravarti and under the aegis of the High Commission of
India. It is being done for promotion of Art & Artists in Tanzania.
Many people are either not aware of what art/paintings
might look like on their walls or they feel that these are too expensive
for them. they do not visit art galleries or look at art.
The Idea behind this kind of show is
to make it like an Open Air Fair/festival where
people can look at art
Artists will display small format, inexpensive paintings,(largest
size A3 and maximaum price is Tshs. 95,000)
If People can spend Tshs. 50,000 or 60,000 on a
meal at a hotel, they can definetely spend similar amount on a piece
of art. for more contact; Minal Solanki: hci@hcindiatz.org

Dar es Salaam-based Makutano group consists of
women exponents of quality arts and crafts from Tanzania.
These different-minded women called themselves Makutano, a Kiswahili
word meaning "crowd", who came not to sell such women
things as cosmetics, skin care products, skirts and blouses, or
kitchen wares, they came to promote a concept that, though surrealistic
for the time being, carries far-reaching significance.
"We are here to sell the idea of environmental protection,"
said Therese Maridadi while demonstrating to potential customers
straw-made shopping baskets and hemp-made shopping bags.

Makutano brings various art & craft artists
for selling their artworks, it is a one day fair which is organised
