In 2006, there was an increase in the number of entries. The prize money also increased to Otsetswe Bogosibokae got the 1st P4500; Kagiso Gaobatwe got 2nd P3500, and Kebuseditswe Kwago 3rd P2500. In 2007, we saw a marked improvement in the quality of entries. This time the prizes were 1st Banabas Ndudzo P5000, Wilson Ngoni 2nd P3000, and Keatlaretse Kwate 3rd P2000
This year (2008), there was 165 entries, 154 men and 11 women. The entries came from all over Botswana. 78 of the entries were disqualified because they did not meet the set standard, 67 went through. However, all the submissions are in the catalogue. Neo Matome-Harun was awarded the 1st prize of P7500, Abedinico Sechaba got second position of prize money P6500 and Kefilwe Mokopane was in third position with prize money of P5000.
The main purpose of this award is to bring together artists to interact and exchange ideas. It also helps artists to network with peers from within Botswana and outside. It is also meant to give exposure to young and disadvantaged artists who have limited opportunities to get exposure. It strengthens the visibility of Batswana artists as well as their contribution to the country. The Award has groomed a lot of young people to make a career out of art. Some of them are now attending exchange programmes in Africa and overseas. We want local artists to produce quality artworks. Thapong is emphasizing that this competition high quality and a professional approach to art.
