Samuel Mbingilo

b. 1976 d.2002

Printmaker

Samuel's interest in art started in 1996 when he decided to study at the John Muafangejo Art Centre. His earliest work was mainly sculptures, but later became more interested in printmaking. The participation in the student art exhibition at the end of 1996 was the turning point in his career, where he gained confidence in his work as a result of positive encouragement from other artists and the public.

In 1998, he attended Tulipamwe International Artists' Workshop and in 1999 was a bursary student at the BAT Centre in Durban, South Africa for three months. He concentrated on developing his own work, attended lectures at the Technikon Natal and had the opportunity to learn new printing techniques.

In 1999 he attended Tulipamwe for the second time. As a facilitator for the Culture in the Neighbourhood project, he was involved in teaching art in schools in Katutura and also travelled to Germany as part of a mural painting project.

"My dream is to be able to create work of an international standard and to hand over my knowledge to young upcoming artists."

Samuel, died tragically in 2002 after a short illness.
