Tulipamwe
Namibia has extended its activities
to include a residential program.
Since
1997, one or more artists participating in the annual workshop have
been requested to extend their time in Namibia to work with visual
arts students from different institutions as well as established
artists. This has primarily taken the form of the community
workshops immediately following Tulipamwe.
A
more intensive residency program has been formalised over the past
years. Artists are identified on the basis of the contribution that
they may make to the development of visual arts in Namibia as a
whole by way of teaching and simultaneously developing their own
work. The artist in residence is expected to share experiences and
skills as well as prepare an exhibition towards the end of the residency
period.
The
SADC Residency specifically sources artists in the southern african
region. This program allows for one artist to live and work in Namibia
for a three month period and is funded by the Ford Foundation.
