Acquiring Webspace

If you are a workshop or residency, you can host your site for FREE with Arts Host. To request this service, please email Danda Jaroljmek. You will then receive an email which will have an FTP address, passwords and instructions of how to upload your site, these instructions also appear on this site on the Uploading Files page.

Your website address will be www.artshost.org/yourworkshopname. Once you have this address you can contact the company that you bought your name from and ask them to redirect your name to this space, this is called Web Forwarding. Instructions below.

Buying a Webname

Arts Host would advise that you buy your web name from www.easily.co.uk. Although the company is based in Britain, you are able to buy names from anywhere in the world and either pay online with a credit card or print out invoices and send a cheque by post. We have chosen to use them as they have proved to be extremely reliable and inexpensive. Webnames will cost no more that £35 per two years (click here for a currency converter).

If have already bought a webname and are paying a lot more than this, you can find out from the company you bought it from what the procedure is for transferring the name to another company and how much it will cost. Please email Danda Jaroljmek if you have any problems.

To buy your name:

1. Go to www.easily.co.uk
2. Type in your preferred webname (you do not need to type the .org extension)

3. After pressing the 'Go' button you will be redirected to a page containing a list of available webnames (see Fig 02)
4. The .org extension is probably most suitable as it stands for Organisation
5. Make sure you fill in the 'NOT REQUIRED' box for all but your preferred webname

6. Click 'Proceed to Next Step'
7. Make sure it is the correct name and click 'Add to Basket'
8. The next page will show you the total amount for the purchase. For a .org name it will be £35 (click here for a currency converter)
9. Click 'Make Purchase'
10. Click 'New Customer'
11. Fill in the form (un-tick the request to subscribe to the newsletter)
12. Click 'Register' (write down your username and password as they will be needed later)
13. You will be able to choose whether to pay with a credit card online or whether to print off the page and pay by post
14. Write down any transaction codes or reference numbers and save any confirmation emails in your website folder

Redirecting Your Name to Your Webspace (Web Forwarding)

You have to set up your webname so that when it is typed into a browser it finds your webspace. You can do this as soon as you have confirmation that you have bought the name. If you have purchased the name through Easily, please follow the instructions below, if not, please contact your webname company and ask them to forward your webname to www.artshost.org/yourwebname.

15. Return to the Easily website
16. Click on the 'Control Panel' link
17. Enter your username and password and press 'Login'

The following box should appear:

18. Click on the 'D' button and the following will appear (showing your webname)

19. Click the 'W' button and you will be directed to the following page

20. You will have to type in your folder name which Danda Jaroljmek will have given you.
21. Tick the box that says 'Frames' and click 'Save'

Buying Webspace Independently

If you wish to buy webspace independently of Arts Host, you can do so through www.easily.co.uk.
Follow the above process until step 9 where you will see the following page:

22. Under 'Web Site Hosting' select Virtual Host (£35.00) (click here for a currency converter)

Buying Web Space Without a Webname

If for instance you already own your webname and would like to buy webspace on it's own, you can do so using the following instructions

23. Click the link on the front page of www.easily.co.uk to 'Hosting' and then 'Virtual Servers'
24. The following box (Fig 07) should be at the top of the page
25. By default the top three boxes are selected and this is what we would recommend that you purchase
26. 'Virtual Server' and 'Plus Initial Date Transfer' should be ticked and 5,120 MB should be selected
27. Press 'Add to Basket & Buy Now' the total will be £35 (click here for a currency converter)
28. It will ask you for a username and password or to fill in a form if you are a new customer

28. To pay, either enter your credit card details and print out the confirmation or follow the instruction for paying via the post.
29. Write down any transaction codes or reference numbers and save any confirmation emails in your website folder
